School Board Votes to Keep Potter in School

To follow up on a news item posted by Ty on April 24th, a challenge to remove Harry Potter books from the library shelves of Gwinnett Public Schools in Georgia
failed after the school board voted on Thursday to keep the books available to its students.

Hearing officer Su Ellen Bray strongly recommended to the board that the books not be removed from the shelves because the series is fantasy, not fact, and that children old enough to read Harry Potter would understand the difference. Bray also wrote that removing the books "would open this very fine school system to ridicule by many of its citizens as well as citizens of the nation."
