Rowling to visit Romania
J.K. Rowling is to visit Romania this week to take part in a fundraising gala, to help children in need in Romania and across Europe.
Rowling recently became a trustee of the newly established charitable foundation The Children's High Level Group, which raises funds to support children in need, focusing on child health and development in Romania and across Europe.
She will be in Romania Jan. 25-26, where she will be the guest of honor at the former palace built by late dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu.
Rowling will also meet children living in foster care and orphanages who have made achievements in sports, science and the arts on Wednesday. She is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and President Traian Basescu. A fundraising appeal will be transmitted by Romanian state television on Thursday during Rowling's visit. Rowling's visit is designed to highlight reforms made in Romania's child welfare system, organizers said.
