JK Rowling looked absolutely stunning in a sky blue gown yesterday at the annual Raisa Gorbachev Foundation charity gala. The gala, which was hosted by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, has become one of the most successful fundraisers of the social calendar. The foundation was established in memory of Mr Gorbachev's late wife and raises millions of pounds a year to help find a cure for cancer in children. This year's event was especially poignant as it marks the tenth anniversary of Mrs Gorbachev's death from leukaemia in 1999.
The lavish gala was organised by a committee that includes Madonna, London Evening Standard proprietor Alexander Lebedev and his son Evgeny - who is chairman of the foundation. Others on the committe include artist David Hockney and Lady Rothermere, wife of Viscount Rothermere, chairman of The Daily Mail and General Trust.
